Travel Certificates.
Planning a trip with your pet starts well before the suitcase comes out. Health certificates, vaccinations and other requirements depend on where you are going and how you will travel. An early conversation gives you time to organize the veterinary steps and paperwork for your itinerary.

Everything you need to know.
How early should I contact the clinic?
As soon as you know your destination and travel dates. Some requirements need substantial lead time, while the final examination or certificate may have a narrow validity window. An early planning call and the certificate appointment may be separate steps.
Does my pet need a health certificate for this trip?
Requirements depend on the destination, route, airline and type of movement. Check the destination authority and carrier, including transit and return requirements. The Village Vet+ offers domestic and international travel certificate appointments.
What should I bring to the appointment?
Bring your pet, vaccination and microchip records, itinerary, airline details and the official forms or requirements you have received. Tell the clinic about stopovers and the planned return to Canada. Incomplete records can affect which steps are needed.
Will my pet need vaccines, tests or parasite treatment?
Possibly. The destination may require specific identification, vaccines, tests, treatments or waiting periods. Their sequence can matter. Review the official requirements with your veterinarian before arranging care, and do not assume last year's documents will still be sufficient.
Is a veterinary signature enough for international travel?
Some certificates also need endorsement by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Where required, this must happen before your pet leaves Canada. Check the CFIA pet export guidance and arrange any endorsement appointment in advance; a clinic certificate does not replace government approval.
What happens if my itinerary changes?
Tell the clinic promptly. A new travel date, route or destination may mean the examination, forms or other requirements must be reviewed. Neither a veterinary appointment nor a certificate guarantees airline acceptance or entry at the border.
What does a travel appointment cost?
Please contact your clinic for an estimate. Examination, documentation, vaccinations, testing and government endorsement may involve separate fees. Confirm which tests the clinic handles and which you must arrange yourself.
