Urgent Care.

When something changes suddenly, knowing where to turn matters. Urgent care starts with understanding your pet's symptoms and how quickly they need help. Call your clinic for guidance and appointment availability; if your pet is in severe distress, contact an emergency veterinary hospital right away.

Does my pet need urgent care or an emergency hospital?

Trouble breathing, collapse, heavy bleeding, repeated seizures, or straining without passing urine need immediate emergency attention. Suspected poisoning also needs immediate veterinary advice. For less severe concerns, call your clinic to discuss the safest next step. Do not wait for an online booking response in an emergency.

Can my pet be seen today?

Call your chosen clinic and describe what is happening. The Village Vet+ offers urgent appointments when availability allows. The team can confirm whether your pet can be seen there or needs an emergency hospital.

What concerns are suitable for an urgent appointment?

Examples include a new limp, a painful ear, an itchy skin flare-up, or a change in appetite. Vomiting, diarrhoea and urinary symptoms can range from mild to serious, so describe their frequency, severity and any other changes when you call.

What happens during an urgent care visit?

The veterinarian examines your pet and reviews when the symptoms began. Depending on the findings, they may recommend testing, treatment or referral. Share your main concerns and ask which decisions need to be made immediately and which can wait.

What should I do before we arrive?

Bring current medications, available records and a timeline of symptoms. If a toxin may be involved, bring the packaging or a photo. Do not give human medication or induce vomiting unless a veterinary professional specifically instructs you to.

What if my pet needs help after hours?

The Village Vet+ offers 24/7 telehealth support, so you can speak with a Registered Veterinary Technician after hours for guidance on your pet’s needs. Visit our 24/7 Telehealth Support page to find your clinic’s phone number, then call and press 5 for after-hours help. Telehealth can help with next steps, but it cannot replace emergency treatment. Go directly to an emergency hospital for severe symptoms.

How much will the visit cost?

The cost depends on the examination, tests and treatment your pet needs. Ask the clinic about the consultation fee and request an estimate for recommended care. Let the team know about budget concerns so you can discuss priorities together.
